Human Adaptation in Stressful Environments (HASTE)
Our mission is to help people adapt to and function well in stressful environments. We achieve this by understanding the stress response in complex and demanding environments and applying this knowledge for societal benefit. We explore biopsychosocial mechanisms to understand, manage, and measure the stress response. Key areas of investigation include:
- The role of Neuropeptide Y.
- REM sleep fragmentation.
- Innovative applications of technology to modify stress appraisals.
- Ecological factors, including social network characteristics in the stress response.
- Development of novel approaches to stress management.
We work with national and international partners in both field and laboratory settings. Our research involves diverse populations, including caring professions, defence and security personnel, elite athletes, and participants in extreme expeditions such as space travel.
